Tullio Visioli’s La voce della «coscenza» sets a satirical text by Italian writer Gianni Rodari, exposing the absurdity of a conscience that approves even the most questionable behaviour. The deliberate misspelling in the title is central to the joke: this “conscience” is missing an i — and, with it, its moral sense. Two contrasting choral parts create a theatrical dialogue through sung passages, spoken interjections and expressive reactions, supported by piano.
