SyIke Zimpel: Erde, uralte Erde (SSAATTBB)

SyIke Zimpel’s Erde, uralte Erde is a powerful and deeply expressive work for SSAA TTBB mixed choir a cappella, freely based on Native American texts. The piece reflects on humanity’s relationship with the Earth, moving from a longing for the ancient Earth to a dramatic portrayal of nature suffering under human destruction.

The music combines lyrical vocal writing with increasingly intense, rhythmic passages. Textures gradually build from intimate solo and small-group sections to powerful full-choir climaxes, before returning to a quiet, reflective ending.

Awarded the Composition Prize of the 1st Composition Competition of the Saxon Music Council in 2000, Erde, uralte Erde offers choirs a striking contemporary work with a strong environmental message and compelling concert presence.
