Oscar Escalada’s Lunfardeando is a rhythmic a cappella work for SSAA female choir, inspired by the tango traditions of Buenos Aires. The piece explores lunfardo, the city’s distinctive slang, through playful verbal patterns, syncopated rhythms and changing tango styles. Its layered vocal writing and dynamic contrasts create an energetic, theatrical character. The score also offers staging possibilities, including spatial separation of voice groups, making it a distinctive choice for an engaging concert opener.
