Herbert Paulmichl’s Passacaglia is a dramatic setting of Psalm 76/77, verses 1–14, written in memory of September 11, 2001. Recurring musical phrases and contrasting dynamics shape a powerful expression of anguish, prayer and the search for comfort. The German psalm text is interwoven with the Latin refrain “Voce mea ad Dominum clamavi” (“I cried out to the Lord with my voice”).
A compelling choice for mixed choirs seeking serious, expressive sacred repertoire with a strong musical structure.
