Herbert Paulmichl: Der Sonnengesang (SATB, soprano solo, orchestra)

Herbert Paulmichl’s Der Sonnengesang sets the famous Canticle of the Sun by St. Francis of Assisi for soprano solo, SATB mixed choir and orchestra. The composer’s own German adaptation of the original text celebrates the natural world and gives thanks for creation. A solo soprano introduces the musical narrative, while the choir and orchestra develop it through contrasting textures and expressive passages.

The score offers several performance options, including versions with organ or piano accompaniment and an a cappella option. A substantial sacred work for choirs planning a larger concert or liturgical project.
