A powerful and highly rhythmic setting of the famous 13th-century Latin poem from Carmina Burana, written for TTBB male choir a cappella. Antognini’s setting reflects the poem’s central theme of the unpredictable and ever-changing nature of Fortune through dramatic contrasts, intense rhythmic writing and dynamic vocal effects.
The piece includes hand claps, body percussion, whispered sounds and sharply contrasting dynamics, giving the performance a striking physical and theatrical character. Marked furioso at a very fast tempo, the music moves between explosive passages and quieter, tense moments before building toward a forceful final statement.
