Ivo Antognini: Dream Land (SATB)

Dream Land by Ivo Antognini is an atmospheric and harmonically rich work for SATB divisi a cappella, setting the evocative poem by Christina Rossetti. The text follows a dreamlike figure resting in a mysterious landscape of rivers, twilight, sleep and silence, ultimately arriving at the image of “perfect peace.”

Antognini weaves a simple, expressive melodic idea through jazz-influenced harmonies and tone clusters, carefully shaping the musical character of each word. The piece gradually develops from a quiet, intimate opening toward a powerful climax on “rest… till time shall cease,” before returning to a tender and introspective conclusion.

Written for intermediate mixed choirs, Dream Land offers a thoughtful and expressive addition to concert programmes, particularly for choirs looking for an atmospheric a cappella work with rich harmonic colour and poetic depth.
