Ivo Antognini: This Song (SA, piano)

This Song by Ivo Antognini is a lively and uplifting work for female or children’s choir (SA) with piano, written for the European Festival of Youth Choirs Basel 2010. The piece uses the metaphor of a song to reflect on life, learning, friendship and the importance of sharing our voices with others.

With its energetic rhythms, playful vocal syllables, whispered passages and expressive piano writing, the music gradually builds toward a joyful celebration of singing together. The recurring idea of “a million voices that sing as one” gives the work a strong sense of community and togetherness, culminating in an exuberant final section inviting everyone to sing along.

A bright and engaging choice for female or children’s choirs, especially for concerts, youth choir festivals and programmes celebrating the joy of singing.
