Ivan Yohan: Pentatonic Hallelujah (SATB)
Pentatonic Hallelujah by Ivan Yohan is an energetic and rhythmically driven setting for mixed choir (SATB). Built around pentatonic melodic patterns and the repeated syllables “dung” and “nung”, the piece gradually develops from a restrained opening into an increasingly vibrant and powerful Hallelujah section.
The work combines rhythmic vocal patterns, layered choral textures and contrasting tempos, culminating in an extended, celebratory finale of Hallelujah and Amen. Originally commissioned for the Allegra Children Choir in Bandung, this piece offers a distinctive contemporary choral sound with strong rhythmic character and an engaging performance style.
