Albrecht Haaf’s Ave verum corpus is a deeply expressive contemporary setting of the beloved 14th-century Corpus Christi hymn. Written for mixed choir (SATB), the work unfolds at a calm, measured pace, allowing the Latin text to remain at the center of the musical expression.
Haaf combines gentle melodic lines, expressive dynamic shaping, and rich four-part harmonies to create an intimate and reverent atmosphere. The music gradually intensifies before returning to a quiet, contemplative character, giving the short setting a clear and carefully shaped dramatic arc.
A refined choice for mixed choirs looking for a contemporary Ave verum with lyrical vocal writing, expressive harmony, and a quietly devotional character.
