Tamás Kálmán: Rózsát Ültettem (SSATB)

Rózsát Ültettem is a brilliant, contemporary reimagining of traditional Hungarian vocal textures, tailor-made for high school, university, or chamber choirs. Written for an unaccompanied SSATB ensemble, Tamás Kálmán effortlessly weaves together deep, melancholic folklore and infectious, driving rhythms.

The piece opens with a beautifully layered, fluid melodic line about love, longing, and the thorns that come with it. It then transitions into an astonishingly rhythmic, percussive middle section driven entirely by traditional Hungarian nonsense syllables.
