Colin Mawby’s Two Chinese Poems brings together two contrasting settings of ancient Chinese poetry for SSAA female choir a cappella. In the Courtyard creates a delicate and melancholic atmosphere, portraying longing and separation through sensitive, flowing vocal writing. Green, Green, the Cypress on the Mound takes the opposite direction, with vibrant rhythms, strong dynamic contrasts and an energetic, joyful character.
The two pieces offer a striking contrast between intimacy and vitality, making the collection a versatile choice for female choirs looking for expressive contemporary choral repertoire.
